(a) In a race where each person is in front of the other with no ties, what place would you be in if you just passed the second place runner?

(b) How many cubic inches of dirt are in a 3 ft by 2 ft by 1 ft hole?

mitchellp,

You fell into the trap of the first one. Think about the change in rankings if you passed 2nd. 1st would still be first, the 2nd runner would now be 3rd, and you would be...The second one is correct, since there is NO dirt in a hole.
