Horse and Chickens Problem Empty

Rajiv went to a farm over summer, seeing only horses and chickens that day. He counted 50 legs in total, and 18 heads. How many horses did he count?

Hey Everyone,

The answer I got for this problem is:
11 chickens and 7 horses

My solution is as follows:

x=chickens
y=horses

x+y=18 --> y=-x+18
2x+4y=50

2x+4(-x+18)=50
2x-4x+72=50
-2x=-22
x=11
x+y=18
y=7

Therefore, there were 11 chickens and 7 horses on the farm.

My congratulations to Archis for successfully establishing a second forum. Good work!

Sincerely,
Sreya
